Did you know plastic straws are recyclable?
Plastic straws ARE recyclable. Typically, they’re made from polypropylene. At current, their recycle value is limited since the food contamination to plastic volume is high. However, when put thru a wash line, they are COMPLETELY recyclable. In fact, plastic straws replaced paper straws for reasons of sustainability. In the 1950’s, after World War Two, with the growth of our nation and world economy, trees were being ripped thru and not enough replacements were planted. Since the cost to manufacture plastic straws was lower than paper, the straw, as we know it now, was born. Trees were saved. The moral of the story is to properly dispose of plastics, so they can be recycled.
